Employee Spotlight: Getting to Know Sourcing Manager Sheby Kwok

NAME: Sheby Kwok

TITLE: Sourcing Manager

YEARS AT QUICKFEAT:  18 years

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Outsource factory and fabric sourcing, material technique and compliance

WORK EXPERIENCE (COMPANY, TITLE, DUTIES):

I’ve had experience in the field of garment production since I was teen. In the 80s, my eldest sister owned a garment factory called Domain Diversify Co., Ltd. in Hong Kong. The factory specifically manufactured high fashion garments for women. Their customers included Norma Kamali, Dior and some small brands for the global market. After school, I often went to the factory to do homework. I loved to walk around every department and watch how the technicians would run the production line. So, I learned basic garment knowledge from there. After I graduated from high school, I became a full-time employee.

A few years later, I decided to leave the “comfort zone” of my sister’s company and changed jobs to broaden my insight. I became a supervisor and then a manager in the Quality Assurance & Control Department in various buying offices. I handled well-known international brands like Jordache Jeans, Salewa, Black Ice, Victoria Secret, Hugo Boss, etc.

My job duties in the buying offices was to monitor the production status and conduct inline and final inspection from cut pieces to finished garment from the production line in the factory located overseas or in China. Occasionally, I also visited the fabric mill as well. I would provide regular production updates to the office in Hong Kong. I was stationed in South Asia countries including Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Shanghai, Beijing, and Malaysia.

In 2000, I began working at Quickfeat as a Sourcing Manager. Quickfeat offered me the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in textiles. I gained a lot of knowledge on functional, performance fabrics through fairs and garment conference meetings. Above all, I have had a chance to enhance my understanding of organic materials and the recycle process.

In addition, I have gained a lot of valuable friendships via conferences and exhibitions. We are all buddies. We send regards to each other and talk about wine, hobbies and our families, in addition to sharing global market information.

This is not only my job, but also my life career. Each piece from the production line is like my baby. It is so exciting to see that baby out in the market!

PERSONAL INTERESTS (OUTSIDE WORK):

I have been married over 20 years to my wife, Rosita. She is a cheerful lady. I love outdoor activities like hiking, playing tennis, running, and wine tasting. I am a member of the choir in my religion. Recently, my wife and I have been a weekend babysitter for our nephew, baby boy Helis, who is now 10-months old. He stays at my home every weekend. He brings our family a lot of happiness, although we are tired. We love his giggle!
